Bears Bits: Questionable Odunze Has No Question About Sunday’s Status, Swift Extension, More

The Chicago Bears’ final injury report of the week was released this afternoon, and it listed wide receiver Rome Odunze (calf) as questionable. Odunze was asked about it this afternoon, and he said there’s little question about whether he’ll play Sunday when the Bears open their season in Carolina. “I doubt I’m questionable … I plan on playing,” Odunze told reporters at his locker at Halas Hall on Friday ( via Jason Lieser ). So there you have it: Odunze will play against Carolina, giving Ben Johnson his full arsenal of weapons on offense. Odunze’s role is still to be determined, of course. ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the initial report, which multiple other local and national reporters have since confirmed. All but the team’s official announcement have arrived. Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson has been pretty vocal about running back D’Andre Swift’s training camp in recent weeks. “It’s the best I’ve seen him this time of year,” Johnson said recently. After today’s extension, that big year will no longer be a contract year. Despite a slow start to his tenure in Chicago, Swift posted a career year in his first campaign reunited with Johnson in 2025, rushing for 1,087 yards on 223 carries and finding the end zone nine times on the ground.
